Information for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island Health Professionals, Aboriginal Health Workers and Indigenous Medical and Health and Science Students

About the Bursary

We are offering ten (10) bursaries to support Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander health professionals and Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander health students to attend our conference.

This bursary will enable Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander health professionals and students, those particularly with an interest in rural or remote practice or the C&NWQ to join other health professionals and educators to contribute to the discussions around rural and remote health and workforce policy development.

Up to $1500 is available per successful applicant to assist with travel and accommodation costs.

Conference Registrations will cover attendance at the conference, but will not cover the cost of the conference dinner.

Applicants are encouraged to complete a short application form.

Applications will be accepted by COB 23rd June 2018.

Successful applicants will be notified by 26th June 2018.

Travel and accommodation will be booked by the Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health.

Conference Registration Bursaries

About the Bursary

The Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health is offering Registration Bursaries to support:

Ten (10) Allied health, Nursing and Medical students on placement in Mount Isa to attend our conference. This bursary will cover the Conference registration ($550) and is available per successful applicants; and

Six (6) Travel and Registration bursaries for up to $1500 for Allied health, Nursing and Medical students from rural or remote Queensland to attend our conference.

The aim of the Bursary is to assist the students to be part of shaping future discussions, enhance your knowledge of rural and remote health policy development as well as further develop your research theory and practice by participating in the conference.

Applicants are requested to complete an application form.

All abstracts must be original work. The presenter/s and/or abstract submitter is responsible for the accuracy of the abstract.

All submissions must be completed electronically via the provided Abstract Cover Sheet and Abstract Form.

By submitting your abstract you are confirming your intention to register and attend the 9th Biennial 'Are You Remotely Interested?' Conference 2018: Realising Remote Possibilities – 20 Years On and you will be issued with a Tax Invoice.

All accepted presenters will be required to register and make payment. A discounted early bird registration is available and closes on Friday 25th May 2018.

Accepted abstracts/presentations provide consent for JCU Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health to reproduce the abstract/presentation in conference material and proceedings, including but not limited to, website, publications, advertising/promotion, careers and employment, email promotion, social media and alumni.

Media Policy

Photographs, video footage, web streaming, podcasts and social media will occur throughout the conference. This media may be used by JCU Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health, for publications, advertising/promotion, careers and employment, email promotion, social media and alumni. Advanced Skills Workshops

Pre-Conference Advanced Skills Workshop: Critical Reflection and Planning for Feedback in Supervision Master Class

Date: Monday 23rd July 2018

Time: 8.00am – 3.00pm

Location: Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health

Registration: Available soon. Workshop participants may also register for workshop as a standalone and pay the workshop fee.

This APHRA accredited workshop for psychologists is open to those psychologists, Allied Health, Dentists, Nurses and Doctors who have full conference registration for no additional charge. The aim of the Master Class is:

  • Increase understanding of critical reflective practice.
  • Increase experience and confidence in critical reflective practice
  • Develop an applied understanding of pre-planning for feedback in supervision.
  • Further developing skills in giving and receiving feedback.
  • Engage in experiential learning through supportive group exercises and role plays.

This one-day workshop will consist of a mix of didactic presentation, experiential exercises, and group discussion. A short quiz is used to assess knowledge and understanding of the topic prior to the workshop. Experiential exercises will also be used throughout the day to enable the trainer to evaluate practical skills. Further assessment may be included for supervising Psychologists who need to meet the Psychology Board of Australia and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency requirements (to retain their supervisory status).
