James Cook University is offering a free, introductory course for people who are thinking about tertiary study or who want to know more about university.
The UniPrep program is aimed at non-school leavers: adults who might not have studied for some time, or who might not have completed high school.
“Anyone who feels that they don’t have the confidence or information they need to succeed at University should be thinking about UniPrep,” Student Equity Officer Liz Callope said.
The program includes sessions on the courses available, scholarship and financial information, time management, study skills, mathematics, and effective essay writing.
“There are also campus tours, an introduction to lectures and tutorials, and the opportunity to meet JCU staff and students,” Mrs Callope said.
“By the time you start your degree program you’ll know your way around and you’ll already have a good personal network on campus.
“Completing UniPrep doesn’t guarantee admission to a JCU degree program, but we do find that those who go on to university study after UniPrep generally do very well.”
The next UniPrep course will run for two weeks from Monday 28th May to 8th June 2012 and will be offered in Cairns and Townsville from 9:00am to 1:00pm daily.
