New measures proposed to streamline delivery of services for students
James Cook University's Vice Chancellor, Professor Sandra Harding, has today announced a proposal to change the University headline structure, to better coordinate the University’s approach to attracting, retaining and graduating both domestic and international students.
"Bringing activities focused on students, both prospective and current, into one portfolio provides the opportunity to improve the student experience and enable the delivery of the priorities expressed in the University Plan.
"The positions of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Global Strategy and Engagement) are currently vacant. The proposal involves removing these positions from the University's management structure, and creating a new position, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Students), to be based in Cairns.
"The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Students) would oversee the Division of Student Life, integrating responsibilities including pathways and admissions, student learning support, examinations, careers and library and information services.
"As Vice Chancellor, under the proposal I would also be taking on additional direct responsibilities in relation to international student engagement and recruitment, marketing and advancement.
"These proposed changes involve changes to direct reporting lines for a small number of staff. Staff will be consulted on the proposed change, and the proposal is subject to approval by the University Council, which will next meet in March," Professor Harding said.
The changes proposed are an important reflection of the University's commitment to do the best we can for our students and for our University, and to deliver on the priorities expressed in the University Plan.
