Lecture theatres temporarily closed

Two lecture theatres at JCU's Townsville campus have been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.

Oct 24, 2013: - Two lecture theatres at James Cook University’s Townville campus have been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.

A possible asbestos contamination has been discovered in an annex next to the lecture theatres.

“While we do not believe there is any problem in the theatres themselves it was decided to err on the side of caution,” a spokesperson for the University said.

“The University has taken this action because the welfare and safety of our students and staff are paramount.”

The lecture theatres will not be available until we get a clearance certificate to re-occupy from the experts.

The lectures theatres are 002 and 003 in Building 3.

Lectures planned for the two theatres have been rescheduled until their expected re-opening towards the end of next week.
