The Orpheus Island Research Station (OIRS) actively seeks volunteers to assist with station duties throughout the year.

Volunteers can stay at the research station in modern, well appointed facilities free of charge (meals not included) for up to four weeks at a time in exchange for four hours of their volunteering each day (28 hours each week).

Volunteers travel for free on the station vessels from Lucinda, a small community in northern Queensland. The minimum expected stay is three days, equivalent to 12 hours work.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, and should be physically fit. Most station tasks involve manual labour and will include, but are not limited to, weed eradication, general estate maintenance, cleaning duties, painting, feral animal control (i.e. catching cane toads), census and surveys. All equipment for these tasks is provided.
