2011 Chancellor's Award Recipient. College Recipient, College of Public Health, Medical and Veterinary Sciences
Dr Glen Richards is founding Managing Director of Australia’s leading veterinary services company Greencross Vets, and a Non-Executive Director of Lyppard Australia Pty Ltd, one of the largest wholesalers of veterinary and pet products in Australia, and Petbarn Pty Ltd, a large format pet retailer with stores located in Queensland , New South Wales and New Zealand.
After graduating from the University of Queensland in 1988, he completed his Post Graduate Research Masters in 1992 at James Cook University researching production and reproduction parameters in Bos Indicus Cattle.
Dr Richards has practiced companion Animal medicine and surgery in Brisbane, Townsville and London before establishing Greencross Vets in Townsville in 1994. He became Managing Director of Greencross Ltd when it was established in 2003 and now oversees more than 50 practices in Queensland, NSW, Victoria and South Australia.
Dr Richards has continued his connection with JCU through corporate sponsorship of the veterinary students association, assisting students with paid veterinary nursing work on weekends, and encouraging Greencross clinics in Townsville to support the pathology and specimen service for fifth year student teaching.
The success of the veterinary emergency centre and hospital’s after hours service was supported by Greencross veterinarians and the clinical workload was crucial to obtaining professional accreditation for the veterinary science course at JCU.
