Zero Discrimination Day (1 March)

An international day celebrated by the United Nations and other international organisations, which aims to promote equality before the law and in practice throughout all of the member countries of the UN. The day is particularly noted by organisations like UNAIDS that combat discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS.

International Women's Day (8 March)

International Women's Day is celebrated across the world on 8 March each year to recognise women and their achievements regardless of nationality, ethnicity or cultural, political or economic background.

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21 March)

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on 21 March. On that day, in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa, against the apartheid "pass laws". Proclaiming the Day in 1966, the General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination (resolution 2142 (XXI)).
