If you are not satisfied with the outcome of your Application for Withdrawal without Financial Penalty you can request a review by JCU’s Review Officer. This must be submitted within 20 University working days.
In applying for a review, you must detail the reasons for your request and you may also want to supply independent third party documentation to support your case (such as a letter from your doctor or counsellor), which shows:
- That your circumstances changed after the census date;
- How your circumstances prevented you from continuing your studies;
- When you became aware you could no longer continue with your studies; and
- Due to circumstances which were beyond your control, you were prevented from withdrawing from your studies prior to the census date/s

Within 10 University working days of receiving your review request, the Review Officer will acknowledge receipt of your application in writing and within 20 University Working days you will be notified of the result.
You may at any stage in the consideration of your review seek the assistance of a support person, other than a person acting in the capacity of a lawyer. You are encouraged you to seek assistance, if you have not already done so, from a JCU Student Association Student Advocate, who provides a free and confidential service which is independent of JCU. Contact the JCU Student Association by email studentassociation@jcu.edu.au, or by freecall on 1800 330 021.
If you are not satisfied with the decision and reason made by the Review Officer, you can apply to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) for a further review within 28 days. Please note there may be a cost when lodging an appeal with the AAT. For more information, contact them directly.
