Appointments with a Learning Advisor
Appointments are 30 minutes long and are currently offered on campus or remotely via video conferencing.
Fair Use Principle: Due to high levels of bookings, appointments with Learning Advisors are limited to a maximum of five sessions per student per semester. If you feel you need more please consult with the Learning Advisor. Multiple bookings through the booking system will be reviewed.
If you cannot find a free session with a Learning Advisor, please submit a general booking request and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Being COVID-safe on campus:
- Do not attend a meeting with a Learning Advisor if you feel unwell or have symptoms of any kind, are in isolation or quarantine, or waiting on a test result
- Keep your 1.5 metre distance and wear a mask where appropriate
- Attend your meeting online to reduce transmission risks where necessary
Learning Advisors can help you to:
- Plan your study time
- Learn stress management strategies
- Understand your subject outline
- Understand your assignment requirements
- Plan and structure an assignment
- Develop academic reading and research skills
- Work with you on your writing and building arguments
- Give you feedback on your first assignments before you submit them
- Develop numeracy skills (maths and statistics)
- Prepare for exams
- Understand your lecturer and tutor expectations and feedback
Learning Advisors:
- do not teach course content
- do not provide private tutoring
- do not write your assessment for you
- do not offer referencing advice. For this please see a librarian.
- do not provide enrollment or subject selection advice. For this contact the JCU Student Centre.
What to bring to your appointment:
- your subject outline, assessment descriptor and rubric
- your assignment or planning document
If it is an online meeting, please email the documents to the Learning Advisor prior to the booked session.

- Select one of the available times and enter in your details
Consider:
Bookings are available up to a month in advance, and you can only work with one advisor at a time.
Fair Use Principle: appointments with Learning Advisors are limited to a maximum of one session per student per week.
