This form applies to all students undertaking either study or research (including HDR candidates) in association with programs linked to the University through professional or extracurricular activities. It is used to appeal any academic or administrative decision other than those specifically covered by:

Complete as much information as possible and provide relevant supporting documentation in order to ensure a smooth assessment of your appeal.

The University strongly encourages you to seek Academic Advocacy from the Townsville and Cairns JCUSA offices from an independent Student Advocate in the preparation and duration of your appeal, especially if you need assistance in understanding the form.

This should be clear and specific e.g. the outcome of an academic misconduct matter. Where possible include the name and position of the original decision maker/s. You can seek help with how to answer this from a JCUSA Academic Advocate.

Are you submitting this appeal within 20 University working days of that decision? * University working days exclude Saturday, Sunday, public holidays or any official University closures.

Wherever possible include: the course/subject the appeal relates to, relevant background information, how to decision/s you are appealing came about, the impact the decision/s will have on you, the steps you have taken to seek feedback from the original decision maker/s.

Provide a statement below briefly and concisely explaining why the ground applies in this case - why the process was procedurally unfair, how/why the conditions of the decision/s are inappropriate and/or why the new evidence is relevant and was not available at the time of the original decision and attach evidence to support your claims. Point to relevant information by providing the document title, page number, paragraph, etc. Emails should be kept in original format and referred as separate attachments.

Please seek advice from your Student Advocate if you are unsure about the evidence you should provide. Do not include material that is irrelevant to the decision/s you are appealing. Evidence from social media sites may not be sufficient to prove some claims.
