How to become a Student Mentor

Thank you for your interest in the JCU Student Mentor Program.

We are currently accepting applications from students who are interested in joining the Student Mentor Program in Teaching Period 1, 2022 - we are the oldest (and best) university student mentor program in Australia.  Students are encouraged to apply for this important volunteer program that helps new students succeed in their studies while enhancing your own employability skills.

The mentor community is made up of vibrant, dynamic, supportive students who are passionate about helping students reach their academic and personal goals.  The commitment is not onerous and involves attendance at a training day, O Week Course Welcome Day, and one to two cohort regroups, as well as sending periodic emails across the study period.

We are looking for applicants who have:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Genuine interest in helping new students succeed
  • Minimum overall GPA of 5.0 to demonstrate sound study strategies
  • Completed all their first year subjects, or will have completed them before SP1/TR1, 2022

Applications are now open for SP1/TR1 2022 Mentors - apply here.

If you would like to find out more information about joining the program, please read the JCU Student Mentor Program Handbook 2022 (PDF, 3915 KB), or contact one of the relevant team members:
