This is a challenging time for the world and our place in it. At JCU, we know that many are in need of support because of COVID-19 and your feedback has helped us to build a Student Success Support Package.

This package has three key features Financial Support, an Academic Safety Net, and Health and Wellbeing.

JCU is committed to ensuring your studies can be completed in the time expected, while protecting your health and wellbeing.

Financial Support

Options are available if you need financial support but do not qualify for Government assistance. Learn more about the Fast Track Student Support Fund and the Extraordinary Student Support Fund.

Academic Safety Net

Changes are in place to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on your academic results. The Academic Safety Net includes flexibility in assessments and exams, and an academic penalty waiver.

We are committed to helping you complete your studies, while ensuring your safety and wellbeing. Support includes online counselling, Library assistance, support services, student pantries, and more.

Additional support

  • Financial support: In addition to the Fast Track Student Support Fund and Extraordinary Student Support Fund, other financial assistance options are available.  Find out more.
  • Parking refund: If you purchased a six- or 12-month parking permit between January and March 2020 you will be eligible for a refund. We will contact students directly by student email to organise a refund. Learn more.
  • Access to computer labs and the Library: JCU Cairns and Townsville campuses are open for students to use computer labs and the Library. You can use your JCU ID card for swipe access to these facilities as well as city campuses.

  • Free counselling: It is normal to feel anxious or worried during this time. Support is available through counselling. JCU counselling is a free, confidential service for all enrolled students. Appointments are available by phone or Zoom.
  • Information sheets: Access useful information for how to handle exam worries, how to succeed with your studies, how to ensure your wellbeing, and more.
  • 24/7 community contacts: Explore a range of on-campus and community services that provide information and support, including for counselling, medical services and domestic violence support.
