A celebration worth waiting for

In the past week, JCU graduates took the stage to celebrate the milestone of finishing their university degree. For many, their ceremony was a long time coming after all ceremonies were postponed in March 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, the smiles and cheers of these graduates suggest that such special moments are worth the wait.

More than 2,000 JCU Townsville students celebrated their graduations across four days and eight ceremonies. Students from both the 2019 and 2020 cohorts walked the stage and received not only a certificate of graduation, but the moment of celebration that many of them thought they may not get to have.

The spirit of elation and delight was shared by everyone involved in the ceremonies, including JCU Chancellor Bill Tweddell. “Graduation is one of my favourite events on the University’s calendar,” he says. “It’s a wonderful event full of graduates and their proud family and friends, so I’m extremely glad we are able to return to hosting them in a COVID-safe way.”

Townsville ceremonies took place across March 23-26 and Cairns ceremonies are due for celebration on April 13 and 14.
