Staff volunteering leave scheme

JCU staff are entitled to two days paid volunteering leave each year to undertake voluntary work for not-for-profit community organisations. The program is a great way for staff to give back to their local community and environment and to display good corporate responsibility.

JCU staff are entitled to two days paid volunteering leave each year to undertake voluntary work for not-for-profit community organisations. Leave can be taken from your personal/carers leave balance. If you have an excess of sick leave this is a great way to use some while doing some good.

TropEco can assist by teaming staff up with environmental and other organisations that support volunteer work in your area. See our Community Volunteering Opportunities page for more information on some of the organisations you may like to volunteer with.

Step 1: Discuss the intended leave with your current line manager.

Step 2: Obtain agreement for the leave.

Step 3: Apply for the leave in My HR Online by choosing:

  1. the Pers&Carer Paid (incl Sick) option in the 'Leave Code' dropdown box, and
  2. the Volunteering option in the 'Reason' dropdown box
