TropEco Feel Good Fridays

Feel Good Fridays @ JCU

We invite you to join us for Feel Good Fridays, a new social sustainability initiative focused on staff wellbeing.FGF

A series of fun activities for JCU staff, held every Friday during SP2, 2020. The activities are informal and varied, from thanking a colleague, to making someone smile on World Smile Day, participating in a campus clean-up, or taking part in the annual Aussie Backyard Bird Count.

The aim of Feel Good Fridays is to cultivate care and foster connectedness amongst colleagues by inviting staff to participate in the same activity on the same day each week. You can choose how many or have few activities you want to take part in. We hope that lots of people will get involved. There will be opportunity to share your stories and photos with each other too.

Find out more below, including the Activity Calendar. Have a look to see what activities you and your colleagues might like to join in over the coming weeks.

The Activity Calendar below shows you what activities are planned each week. You can choose how many or how few activities you want to take part in; there is no obligation.

The TropEco team will promote the activities weekly; we hope that lots of staff choose to participate.

The aim of Feel Good Fridays @ JCU is to cultivate care and foster connectedness amongst colleagues by inviting staff to participate in the same activity on the same day. You can choose how many or have few activities you want to take part in; there is no obligation. It is hoped that bringing people together in this informal way will support a community of care at JCU and boost morale over the coming months.

Feel Good Fridays is, for now, replacing the Green Impact @JCU program, a staff engagement initiative that aims to make the workplace more sustainable. It has been decided to put Green Impact on hold as most staff are working from home. Green Impact was trialled for the first time at JCU in 2019. It proved to be very successful with over 170 staff members actively engaged in the program. The TropEco team does not want to lose this momentum. We believe that now is the perfect time to switch our focus to social sustainability and we see the Kindness Club as a good vehicle for nurturing this momentum.

Feel Good Fridays is an example of OneJCU in practice and demonstrates JCU’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The United Nations Global Compact is the world's largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative. It states that:

Social sustainability is about identifying and managing business impacts, both positive and negative, on people. The quality of a company’s relationships and engagement with its stakeholders is critical. Directly or indirectly, companies affect what happens to employees, workers in the value chain, customers and local communities, and it is important to manage impacts proactively.

In 2016, JCU became the first Australian university signatory to the University Commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through this commitment, JCU seeks to support and promote the principles of the SDGs through its research, teaching, and operations.

The JCU Kindness Club is a social sustainability initiative that speaks directly to our commitment to the SDGs, specifically SDG 3 – Good Health and Wellbeing.
