The Tropical Queensland Maths Hub website was developed by mathematicians for mathematicians in response to feedback from school principals, heads of mathematics departments and teachers of mathematics in northern Queensland. It draws on expertise and experience of the community, including those who teach the students of today and those who will employ the graduates of tomorrow.
The aim of this website is to provide mathematics teachers access to resources for teaching maths in northern Queensland, to obtain mathematics careers information, to stay informed of upcoming mathematics events, and to share and develop mathematics pedagogy. Website evaluations will be carried out annually by invited stakeholders.
Mathematics educators from JCU, led by Associate Professor Shaun Belward and Dr Jo Balatti (retired) provided the inspiration to kick-start the initiative, supported by Dr Donna Rigano, Dr Leah Daniel and James Dalitz.
Going forward, support from the entire northern Queensland mathematics community will keep the website evolving and meeting the needs of mathematics educators in our region.
Funding for this initiative was provided by an Office for Learning and Teaching (OLT) grant, titled Inspiring Mathematics and Science in Teacher Education (IMSITE), and an Australian Maths and Science Partnership Program grant, The Queensland STEM Education Network (QSEN).
