REX is a whole of community work experience program offering placements across a range of disciplines within a single community for a set period. In addition to work experience REX participants are involved in a number of community activities during the program.
Communities in rural and remote Queensland can face difficulty in attracting skilled workers and need to compete in different ways, including emphasizing quality of life, to attract people to live and work in their community.
The REX Program was developed in response to this challenge. Originally a trial program established through collaboration between QCoal Foundation, Morris Corporation, James Cook University (JCU) and the Collinsville community, the REX program has now grown to include the community of Dysart.
Students are supported through their placement period with accommodation and all meals and are invited to participate in various community activities to gain insight into life in a small rural town.
Applications are open now for 2018.
