James Cook University (JCU) Brisbane recently welcomed 30 students from Wonkwang University, South Korea, as part of the Jeonbuk Youth Global Leadership RISE Program.

The program commenced with eight weeks of online English studies delivered by the Sarina Russo Institute (SRI), equipping students with valuable language and communication skills before participating in an intensive learning experience in Brisbane. Students then took part in a three-day face-to-face program, culminating in a business innovation showcase where they presented their ideas to a delegation comprising representatives from JCU Brisbane, SRI, Wonkwang University, and Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ). The presentations highlighted the students' creativity, teamwork, and entrepreneurial thinking.

A key highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between JCU Brisbane, SRI, and Wonkwang University, establishing a framework to explore future collaboration opportunities in international education, student engagement, and leadership development. Representing the partner organisations at the signing were Professor Christopher Klopper, Head of Campus and Dean, JCU Brisbane; Michael Pennisi, CEO of Education, Sarina Russo Group; Professor Hwakoung Hwang, Dean of Future Capabilities and Career Development, Wonkwang University; and Emily Nili, Director, Enn-Able Education.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to fostering global connections, cross-cultural learning, and international opportunities for students. JCU Brisbane looks forward to strengthening its relationship with Wonkwang University and developing future initiatives that support the next generation of global leaders.
