Pre-requisites

Entry to the social work honours program requires the successful completion of 72 credit points at levels 1, 2 and 3 in the pass degree; and

  • at least a credit grade in four level 2 or level 3 social work subjects; and

  • at least a distinction grade in at least two level 2 or level 3 social work subjects.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Candidates may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing for Previous Studies and Recognised Prior Learning policy associated procedures.

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 10 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed this course.

Other restrictions

Holders of an Associate Diploma or Diploma in a related field of study (program is accredited by the Australian Institute of Welfare and Community Workers or recognised by this university) are eligible for a minimum of 24 credit points of advanced standing.

Candidates who have completed two or more years of a three year Social (Community) Welfare degree are eligible for a minimum of 24 credit points, and up to a maximum of 48 credit points of advanced standing.

The Australian Association of Social Workers does not permit advanced standing to be given for field education undertaken in non-social work programs.
