The Graduate Research School's (GRS) role is ‘empowering tomorrow’s researchers’ by supporting research education throughout JCU and developing and refining the University’s overall Higher Degree by Research (HDR) strategy.
We focus on three key areas:
We support JCU’s Research Education strategy by developing and implementing University-level policies and procedures and fostering industry and international partnerships.
The GRS provides a range of research administrative services, including managing and overseeing all aspects of the life cycle of candidature from admission to examination.
The GRS is committed to providing high quality professional development programs to enrich the experience of our HDR candidates and support their Advisors. To ensure excellence in supervision, we also coordinate the accreditation and registration of HDR Advisors.
JCU recognises, encourages and rewards staff who excel in the supervision of research degree candidates as well as recognising excellence in Higher Degree by Research candidature. You can find more information here.
The Graduate Research School uses several automated systems that HDR candidates need to be familiar with. They are listed here. The eGRS system operates a bit like Dropbox, and enables you to store and share documents, and also access materials and recordings from workshops that you attend as part of the Professional Development Program. CareerHub is our system for registering to attend workshops and other events, and for storing records of your attendance at face-to-face activities. Twice a year, both eGRS and CareerHub are demonstrated in a compulsory workshop session, so make sure you come along to learn how to operate these systems. LearnJCU is where you will find all our online modules, including the compulsory modules that you must complete for Confirmation of Candidature. Go to the Higher Degree by Research Student Community in Learn JCU to find these resources.
