Maths and Chemistry Preparatory and Bridging Courses

Many health science and science courses have prerequisites of Queensland Year 12 Chemistry and/or Maths B, in addition to the requirement of Year 12 English. Some also require the completion of Year 12 Physics. For those applicants who have not completed these Queensland Year 12 subjects or equivalents, JCU offers a range of bridging subjects at the Cairns and Townsville campuses.

Townsville

Preparatory Chemistry CH1020:03

Preparatory Chemistry is a four week subject taught on-campus in intensive mode in late January/February each year. This subject is also available in Study Period 2, though not in intensive mode. It is designed for students who intend to study Chemistry at University and who have not completed Year 12 Chemistry or equivalent, or who feel that their knowledge of Chemistry needs updating. This course can be used as a pre-requisite for JCU degree courses requiring Year 12 Chemistry. A student contribution amount is payable for this subject if taken as part of a degree course. A tuition fee is payable for this subject if taken as part of the Certificate of Science or as a Miscellaneous student.

Preparatory Mathematics MA1020:03

Preparatory Maths is designed for students who do not have a sound achievement or better in Queensland Year 12 Maths B or equivalent, and who require Maths B as a prerequisite for their degree course. The course is offered as an on-campus subject in Study Period 1 and as an intensive mode subject in late January/February each year. A student contribution amount is payable for this subject if taken as part of a degree course. A tuition fee is payable for this subject if taken as part of the Certificate of Science or as a Miscellaneous student.

Preparatory Mathematics MA1020:03

Preparatory Maths is designed for students who do not have a Sound Achievement or better in Queensland Year 12 Maths B or equivalent, and who require Maths B as a prerequisite for their degree course. This subject is taught on-campus in Study Period 1. A student contribution amount is payable for this subject if taken as part of a degree course. A tuition fee is payable for this subject if taken as part of the Certificate of Science or as a Miscellaneous student.
