Course pre-requisites

Entry requirements for this course are consistent with the Pathways to Qualifications in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF level 9) Guidelines for Masters degrees.

Completion of a bachelor degree in a relevant discipline; or

Completion, to a suitable standard, of the Postgraduate Diploma of Public Health and Tropical Medicine from this university; or

Other qualifications recognised by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Molecular Sciences as equivalent to the above; or

Submission, as an exceptional case, of other evidence of professional and academic attainments including a minimum of five years in health related activities.

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Students of non English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System (IELTS).  The IELTS score required for admission to this course can be found in Schedule I of the JCU Admissions policy.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Candidates may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing for Previous Studies and Recognised Prior Learning policy associated procedures.

18 credit points

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 18 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed this course.

Other restrictions

Candidates with entry qualifications equivalent to four years or more of undergraduate or postgraduate study, plus a minimum of five years health related professional experience, may be granted advanced standing in recognition of prior learning up to a maximum of 12 credit points of study.

A maximum of 6 credit points may be granted for other postgraduate subjects, provided those subjects have not been credited towards any other award, either at this or any other University.
