Admission Requirements

Course pre-requisites

Must be registered as a nurse in Australia and:

  • have completed 12 months of clinical experience as a registered nurse; and

  • have completed a bachelor degree in a health related field, to an appropriate standard, at this or another University; or

  • hold equivalent qualifications;

  • or submit as an exceptional case such evidence of professional attainments including professional experience in nursing.

Entry requirements for this course are consistent with the Pathways to Qualifications in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF level 8) Guidelines for Postgraduate Certificates.

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Students of non English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The IELTS score required for admission to this course can be found in Schedule II of the JCU Admissions policy.

Students who have completed the QHealth Transitions Neonatal program will be able to choose subject NS5226:03 in the PGDip Neonatal Care course as an elective, therefore specified advanced standing will not be granted for NS5225 or NS5226.

Candidates may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the   Advanced Standing for Previous Studies and Recognised Prior Learning policy associated procedures.

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 5 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 8 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.
