Entry requirements for this course are consistent with the Pathways to Qualifications in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF level 7) Guidelines for Bachelor degrees.

Special admission requirements

A candidate who has previously graduated with either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Laws shall not be admitted to the joint degree.

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Students of non English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System (IELTS).  The IELTS score required for admission to this course can be found in Schedule II of the JCU Admissions policy.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Candidates may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing for Previous Studies and Recognised Prior Learning policy associated procedures.

Maximum allowed

80 credit points

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 20 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed this course.

Other restrictions

A maximum of 18 credit points of advanced standing may be granted at level 3 and 4.

Exit with lesser award

Candidates who exit the course prior to completion, and have completed 72 credit points of study and appropriate subjects, may be eligible to receive the award of Bachelor of Arts.

Candidates who exit the course after the first year of equivalent full-time study may transfer to the Bachelor of Laws without loss of advanced standing. (Note: Transfer after completion of any later year of the joint degree will normally entail loss of advanced standing for non-Law subjects completed beyond level 1.)

Embedded honours is available for Law.

Arts honours is available as an additional year of study.

Eligibility

For entry into the Arts Honours program, candidates must satisfy the School requirements relating to the standard of academic achievement necessary to proceed to the honours degree.

Entry to the Law honours program is restricted to students with an overall GPA of 5 and above and is only by invitation.
