Course pre-requisites

Completion of an undergraduate degree, equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree, not in Information Technology or a related discipline, from this or another university; or

Completion of either the Master of Information Technology (Extended) or the Master of Business Administration from this university; or

Other qualifications or practical experience recognised by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts as equivalent to the above.

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Students of non English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The IELTS score required for admission to this course can be found in Schedule I of the JCU Admissions policy.

Supplementary exam for final subject

A candidate who has failed a single subject towards the award in their final teaching period and who gained 40% or more of the marks for that subject may be granted a supplementary examination in that subject. However if that subject is required for accreditation, then the criteria specified by that accreditation will apply.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Candidates may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing for Previous Studies and Recognised Prior Learning policy associated procedures.

Maximum allowed

24 credit points

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 4 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 12 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed this course.

Other restrictions

A maximum of 12 credit points may be granted for each component of the degree.

Advanced standing will not be granted for work experience or undergraduate studies.

Candidates who are granted advanced standing for either of the graduate Certificate of Graduate Diploma’s will be required to surrender that award prior to graduating with the Master of Information Technology-Master of Business Administration.

Candidates who exit the course prior to completion, and have completed the relevant number of credit points and appropriate postgraduate level subjects, may be eligible to receive one of the following awards:

  • Graduate Certificate of Information Technology;

  • Graduate Diploma of Information Technology.
