Course pre-requisites

English, Maths B and Chemistry for all majors except:

Physics major - English, Maths B, Chemistry and Physics or (in lieu of Physics) Maths C

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Students of non-English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The IELTS score required for admission to this course can be found in Schedule I of the JCU Admissions policy.

Additional selection requirements

Queensland OP 6 (or equivalent) or better is required for entry.

Special admission requirements

JCU students who have completed the first year of the Bachelor of Science, with a GPA of greater than 5.5, may apply to transfer to the Bachelor of Science (Advanced).

Post Admission requirements

Some majors require attendance at block mode subjects on either the Townsville or Cairns campus. Students may be required to attend block mode classes at a campus other than that at which they are enrolled, at their own expense.

Course progression requisites

Must successfully complete 12 credit points at level 1 before attempting any level 2 subject.

Must successfully complete 18 credit points at level 1 and level 2 before attempting any level 3 or level 5 subject.

Candidates must maintain an annual GPA of 5.5 to remain in the course. Failure to so do will result in a transfer to the Bachelor of Science.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Candidates may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing for Previous Studies and Recognised Prior Learning policy associated procedures.

Maximum allowed

48 credit points

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 20 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed this course.

Other restrictions

A maximum of 6 credit points of advanced standing may be granted at level 3.
