English Language Requirements

Students of non-English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The IELTS score required for admission to this course can be found in Schedule I of the JCU Admissions policy.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Master of International Tourism and Hospitality Management, JCU graduates will be able to:

• Critically analyse complex tourism and hospitality-related knowledge and practice from both historical and recent perspectives

• Evaluate contexts within which differing sustainable tourism and hospitality performance methods should be integrated and applied

• Evaluate sustainable  economic, social and environmental practices and value systems from different disciplinary perspectives

• Research and apply established concepts to solve tourism and hospitality and professional practice problems

• Critically analyse complex contemporary tourism and hospitality issues using appropriate models and make reasoned recommendations based on multidisciplinary synthesis of theory and evidence

• Apply creative thinking effectively to tourism and hospitality theory and practice

• Present complex tourism and hospitality analyses and information appropriately to differing audiences using:

• (a) Effective oral presentation skills

• (b) Clear and fluent written communication

• Work effectively in achieving common goals, demonstrating both:

• (a) Collaboration

• (b) Leadership

• Adapt tourism and hospitality constructs and skills to novel theoretical or practical situations

• Exercise independent judgment and initiative in solving differing tourism and hospitality problems

• Demonstrate a capacity for personal reflection and self-development in relation to professional tourism and hospitality learning and practice

Accreditation requirements

Supplementary exam for final subject

A candidate who has failed a single subject towards the award in their final teaching period and who gained 40% or more of the marks for that subject may be granted a supplementary examination in that subject. However if that subject is required for accreditation, then the criteria specified by that accreditation will apply.

24 credit points

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 12 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.

Exit with lesser award

Candidates who exit the course prior to completion, and have completed the appropriate subjects, may be eligible to receive the award of either Graduate Certificate of International Hospitality Management or Graduate Diploma of International Hospitality Management.
