Admission Requirements

Course pre-requisites

English or relevant TAFE Diploma.

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Students of non-English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System (IELTS).  The IELTS score required for admission to this course can be found in Schedule II of the JCU Admissions policy.

On successful completion of the Bachelor of Creative Industries  graduates will possess:

Knowledge

  • Explain why the arts are culturally significant to individuals and to the society

  • Describe the nature of arts practice in the past with an emphasis on the arts since modernism and the contemporary arts in particular

  • Demonstrate an awareness of professional practice in the creative industries, including ethical, moral and sustainable practices

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Indigenous art practices and perspectives.

Skills

  • Apply a process that involves research, testing, seeking solutions, reflective thinking and persevering when producing creative works

  • Interact proficiently and professionally with people in public, commercial and academic settings in oral, written and digital formats including numeracy where appropriate

  • Deliver creative outcomes independently and lead projects that require interaction with others in the creative industries.

  • Deliver collaborative creative outcomes working effectively as a team member in a range of settings in the creative industries.

Application

  • Produce a proficient, original, technically competent, considered and communicative body of work, in two areas of related creative activity

  • Produce creative work that demonstrates awareness of the sustained inquiry and reflection that underpins the self-transformative nature of the arts.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Candidates may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing for Previous Studies and Recognised Prior Learning policy associated procedures.

Maximum allowed

48 credit points

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 5 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 13 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.

Other restrictions

A maximum of 9 credit points of advanced standing may be granted at level 3.

Completion of a pass degree in the Creative Arts with a GPA of 5.0 or higher: or

Other qualifications recognized by the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts as equivalent to the above.

Submit proposal to Honours coordinator by November 30 of the year preceding study.
