Admission Requirements
Course pre-requisites | Completion of Bachelor of Education or a three-year Diploma of Teaching that includes a Pass in professional experience from this university; or Completion of a Bachelor of Education or a Diploma of Teaching or Bachelor of Teaching or an equivalent qualification from another approved institution of higher education; or Other qualifications recognised by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences as equivalent to the above. |
Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements | Students of non-English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The IELTS score required for admission to this course can be found in Schedule II of the JCU Admissions policy. |
Special admission requirements | Experienced teachers who do not meet the above requirements may be permitted by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor to be admitted to the course and be required to complete such subjects and other work as may be prescribed in addition to completing the requirements specified below. |
Post admission requirements | Suitability to Work with Children Card (blue card): This course includes prescribed professional or clinical placements that may involve contact with children under 18 years of age. Students are required to obtain a Suitability to Work with Children Card (which involves a criminal history check undertaken by the Queensland Police) before the start of the first placement. Students must retain a current Suitability to Work with Children Card for the duration of their course, as failure to do so will result in the termination of their admission to the course. Course learning outcomes | The Bachelor of Education Professional Development has the same Course Learning Outcomes as the Bachelor of Education courses. Students will be required to enrol in ED4991 Independent Study where they prepare a portfolio that demonstrates evidence of attainment of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Students who enrol in the Bachelor of Education Professional Development will be required to prepare a study plan and have it registered and approved by Queensland College of Teachers before they begin their study.
