Admission Requirements

Course pre-requisites

Completion of a four year Bachelor of Education from this or another University; or

Other qualifications recognised by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences as equivalent to the above.

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Students of non-English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The IELTS score required for admission to this course can be found in Schedule II of the JCU Admissions policy.

Additional selection requirements

Applicants must satisfy the faculty that the standard and nature of their previous academic achievements are appropriate.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Bachelor of Education with Honours (Graduate) graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of research principles and methods applicable to the field, or a sub-field of Education and/or related area of professional practice

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of recent developments, discourses and debates in the field or a sub-field, of Education and/or related area of professional practice

  • Demonstrate knowledge of James Cook University's Research Code of Conduct and of ethical practices in social science research

  • Develop advanced formal reading and writing and collaborative skills for educational research and/or related areas of professional practice

  • Identify, investigate, analyse and synthesise a research problem applying methodological concepts and theories in a small-scale research project

  • Apply the principles of ethical practice to the conduct of social science research

  • Design, plan conduct and publish a substantial research-based project with creativity and initiative and a high level of autonomy and accountability in the field or a sub field of education.

Eligibility

Candidates may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing for Previous Studies and Recognised Prior Learning policy associated procedures.

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 13 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed this course.
