Admission Requirements

Course pre-requisites

Students must have successfully completed the first three years of the AQF level 7 MBBS program at JCU with an overall grade point average of 5.0 (i.e. credit average) over the three preceding years.

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 2 Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Students also need to take note that in accordance with the National Registration Board’s requirement, they must hold a valid IELTS (academic module) minimum score of 7.0 in all components within 2 years prior to applying for registration.

Additional selection requirements

Application for entry to the program is by approval of the College Dean.

Quota restrictions on the number of honours places available may apply from time to time as determined by the College Dean.

Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) graduates will be able to:

  • Apply coherent and advanced knowledge of the underlying principles and concepts in medical science

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in quantitative and/or qualitative research approaches through critical analysis, evaluation and application of the relevant approach

  • Design and successfully conduct well designed research projects that are ethically and culturally safe and empowering in partnership with relevant collaborators

  • Critically evaluate own capabilities as developing researchers to enable structured further learning
