Course pre-requisites

Completion of an AQF Level 7 Bachelor Degree or equivalent; and satisfactory completion of Module 1 of the Australian Rural Leadership Program or;

Equivalent professional/life experience as demonstrated by enrolment in the Australian Rural Leadership program and satisfactory completion of Module 1 of the Australian Rural Leadership Program.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 1 Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Australian Rural Leadership, graduates will be able to:

  • Critically appraise socially responsible leadership-related knowledge and associated leadership practice relating to remote and rural issues regionally, nationally and internationally

  • Evaluate and appraise complex and diverse leadership practices in terms of underpinning interests, values and contextual knowledge and understandings

  • Critically analyse complex rural issues and associated socially responsible leadership practices using appropriate concepts and make recommendations based on a synthesis of theory and contextual evidence

  • Present an analysis of socially responsible rural leadership to demonstrate and communicate the complexity, diversity of values, and ethical issues inherent in remote and rural communities

  • Demonstrate the ability to work ethically and collaboratively, with demonstrated ability to work with diverse values and complexity in order to reach agreed outputs/outcomes

  • Apply ethical judgments; take on diverse values, views and complexity as part of socially responsible leadership in problem solving

  • Demonstrate a capacity for reflection and personal self-development to reflect on leadership issues, theories and practice.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Students are granted advanced standing towards the Graduate Certificate of Australian Rural Leadership for the ARLP modules as outlined in the Course Structure in accordance with the Advanced Standing and Articulation policy and associated procedures.

Advanced standing will be granted only for subjects completed in the last 17 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 20 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the student has not completed this course.
