Completion of a cognate AQF Level 7 Bachelor Degree or

Other qualifications recognised by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Tropical Environments and Societies as equivalent to the above.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Career Development, graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate advanced and integrated understanding of theoretical and technical knowledge, methods, ethical reasoning, principles and recent developments in career development, with depth in the Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners of the Career Industry Council of Australia

  • Demonstrate understanding of deep and critical approaches to learning in issues relating to the tropics, sustainability, and Indigenous, regional and rural wellbeing and their application in career development

  • Critically review, analyse and synthesise theoretical propositions, professional practice and research principles and methodologies in career development, including intercultural applications

  • Interpret, evaluate, generate and justify complex ideas, conclusions and professional decisions to specialist and non-specialist stakeholders, using advanced speaking, reading, writing, listening, numeracy and advocacy skills

  • Identify, theorise and design solutions to complex practitioner issues in a range of career development contexts, with a high level of autonomy, initiative, accountability and collaboration.

Supplementary exam for final subject

A student who has failed the final subject towards the award and who gained 40% or more of the marks for that subject may be granted a supplementary examination in that subject. However if that subject is required for accreditation, then the criteria specified by that accreditation will apply.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Students may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing and Articulation policy and associated procedures.

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 2 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 4 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the student has not completed the course of study prescribed for the certificate.

Other restrictions

Advanced standing will be granted only in fields relevant to the discipline area and at an equivalent level.

Advanced standing will not be granted for ED5865.
