Course pre-requisites

Completion of an AQF level 7 bachelor degree in nursing or equivalent qualification and eligibility for nurse registration in Australia.

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 3a Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Additional selection requirements

It is recommended that applicants have completed a minimum of one year of full-time clinical experience (or part-time equivalent) as a registered nurse.

Special admission requirements

For flexible delivery option, computer and internet access is required.

June 1 or January 1 of each year.  Students can commence in TP1 or TP2.

Course learning outcomes

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

  • Apply and adapt specialised knowledge, skills and technical competencies within nursing science, across a variety of health contexts, including tropical, rural, remote and Indigenous settings

  • Critically analyse, synthesise and evaluate a range of data and evidence to provide solutions to complex nursing problems

  • Make high-level, independent judgements and evaluations about nursing interventions related to a speciality area of nursing

Eligibility

Students may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing and Articulation policy and associated procedures.

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 13 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the student has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.
