Course pre-requisites

Completion of an AQF level 8 first or second class honours degree accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council or an equivalent qualification from an overseas institution; or

Completion of a four-year AQF level 7 degree or an AQF level 8 postgraduate diploma accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council, achieved at a level which is deemed by the College Dean to be at least equivalent to a second class honours degree; or

Completion of at least an AQF level 7 bachelor degree in an appropriate discipline and, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, adequate experience and/or training and academic competence to succeed in the course.

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 3c Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Psychology, graduates will be able to:

  • Integrate advanced theoretical and technical knowledge in the field of clinical psychology and related areas of clinical practice

  • Review and reflect on the ethics and efficacy of clinical practice including application of assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, intervention and outcome evaluation

  • Analyse, synthesise and evaluate knowledge and evidence bases underpinning clinical practice

  • Apply advanced English language, and technological and numeracy skills to generate, interpret and communicate complex knowledge, concepts, data and arguments, appropriate for a variety of audiences

  • Exercise high-level judgement and initiative to identify and solve complex problems, make informed decisions and plan ongoing professional learning within diverse clinical practice contexts.

Eligibility

Students may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing and Articulation policy and associated procedures.

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 13 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the student has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.
