Course pre-requisites

The Advanced Diploma of Arts may be awarded to students exiting a bachelor degree prior to completing the requirements of that course, provided they meet the award requirements outlined below.

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 1 Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Advanced Diploma of Arts, graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of sociological and social change models, theories and perspectives

  • Identify, analyse, synthesise and act on information, claims and evidence from a range of sources and apply them to known and unknown situations

  • Communicate information, ideas and reasoned arguments through proficiency in written and spoken English language and a range of technologies

  • Analyse, plan, design and evaluate solutions to problems in a range of situations exercising initiative and judgement

  • Demonstrate technical and management functions in working independently and in teams to complete a range of activities within broad parameters

  • Apply skills and knowledge to undertake paraprofessional work/highly skilled work, and as a pathway for further learning.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Students may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing and Articulation policy and associated procedures.

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 16 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed this course.
