In the context of a JCU graduate, on successful completion of the Bachelor of Creative Industries graduates will be able to:

  • Critically reflect on the cultural significance of the arts, including Indigenous art practices and perspectives

  • Critically reflect on the nature of arts practice, with an emphasis on the arts since modernism and the contemporary arts in particular

  • Appraise professional practices in the creative industries, including ethical, moral and sustainable practices

  • Develop, research and evaluate ideas, processes and solutions through creative, critical and reflective thinking and perseverance

  • Interpret and communicate ideas proficiently and professionally in oral, written, numeric and digital formats, suited to a range of audiences

  • Deliver creative outcomes through working independently, leading projects, and collaborating effectively with others, across a range of settings

  • Produce an original, technically competent, considered and communicative body of work that demonstrates broad and coherent knowledge and skills, in two areas of related creative activity

  • Produce and critically reflect on creative work that demonstrates the sustained inquiry and reflection that underpins the self-transformative nature of the arts.

Supplementary exam for final subject

A student who has failed a single subject towards the award in their final teaching period and who gained 40% or more of the marks for that subject may be granted a supplementary examination in that subject.  However if that subject is required for accreditation, then the criteria specified by that accreditation will apply.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Students may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing and Articulation policy and associated procedures.

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 5 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 13 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the student has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.

Other restrictions

A maximum of 9 credit points of advanced standing may be granted at level 3.

Completion of a pass degree in the Creative Industries with a GPA of 5.0 or higher; or

Other qualifications recognized by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Tropical Environments and Societies as equivalent to the above.

Submit proposal to Honours coordinator by November 30 of the year preceding study.
