A student admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Psychology at this university may be invited by the College Dean to undertake the Honours stream if that student has:

  1. obtained a minimum of 72 credit points by successful completion of the level 1, 2 and 3 subjects prescribed in Bachelor of Psychology; and

  2. obtained a minimum of a Credit average (65%) across PY2103, PY2107 and a minimum of a Distinction average (75%) across 15 credit points of level 3 PY subjects, including PY3101

Note: Students who have successfully completed requirement 1, but not achieved requirement 2, will be able to exit the course with a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology).

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), graduates will be able to:

  • Integrate an advanced body of knowledge with depth in major theoretical perspectives and concepts, and philosophical and historical developments, in the core areas of psychology

  • Apply knowledge of research principles, methods and ethics to design and conduct scientific investigations that address complex psychological questions

  • Review and reflect on the ethics and efficacy of professional practice, interventions and interactions

  • Analyse, synthesise and evaluate knowledge and evidence bases underpinning professional practice

  • Apply advanced English language, and technological and numeracy skills to generate, interpret and communicate knowledge, data, arguments and research findings appropriate for a variety of audiences

  • Exercise high-level judgement and initiative to identify and solve complex problems, make informed decisions and plan ongoing professional learning within diverse research and/or professional practice contexts

  • Adapt and apply research skills and psychological understanding, including where appropriate knowledge of cultural diversity, to investigate complex human behaviour with some independence.

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 19 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed this course.
