Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of English for Academic Purposes, graduates will be able to:

demonstrate understanding of a variety of spoken discourse
display critical thinking on academic topics through speech and writing
derive meaning of specific details from different types of discourse
produce academic essays, following Australian university conventions
read academic texts, using appropriate reading techniques

Course completion requirements

Completion of EAP Level 3 and EAP Level 3 Extended:

Exit score of 55% equates to Overall IELTS score of 5.5 (this fulfils the language entry requirements for the Diploma of Higher Education)
Exit score of 60% equates to Overall IELTS score of 6.0 (this fulfils the language entry requirement for EAP Level 4, EAP Level 4 Extended, and Band 1 JCU programs)

Completion of EAP Level 4:

Exit score of 60% equates to Overall IELTS score of 6.5

Completion of EAP Level 4 Extended:

Exit score of 60% equates to Overall IELTS score of 7.0 (additional testing is required for entry into courses requiring an IELTS 7).
