Pre-requisites

Completion of a 4-year undergraduate degree in engineering or a cognate discipline, OR

Completion of a 3-year undergraduate degree in engineering or a cognate discipline, plus at least two (2) years of documented relevant work experience, OR

Demonstrated relevant prior learning and/or relevant industry experience deemed equivalent to the above, at the discretion of the Course Coordinator or Dean of College.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 2 – Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Master of Engineering Management, graduates will be able to:

1. Integrate and apply an understanding of recent developments in Engineering Management with specialised theoretical and technical knowledge in Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®)/PRINCE2®, relevant industry standards and best practice.
2. Obtain, analyse, interpret, synthesise and evaluate complex information, concepts and theories from a range of sources.
3. Plan and conduct reliable, evidence-based experiments by critically selecting and applying methods, techniques and tools to test and verify established theories across Engineering Management.
4. Apply expert analysis and judgement to identify, conceptualize, and generate innovative solutions to unpredictable and complex problems in engineering management.
5. Communicate theoretical propositions, methodologies, arguments and conclusions clearly and coherently to specialist and non-specialist audiences through advanced written and oral English language skills.
6. Critically review regulatory requirements, ethical principles and, where appropriate, cultural frameworks, to work effectively, responsibly and safely in diverse contexts.
7. Reflect on current skills, knowledge and attitudes to manage own professional learning needs and performance - autonomously and in collaboration with others.
8. Apply research principles and methods to plan and execute a substantial research-based project, capstone experience and/or piece of scholarship.

Eligibility

Students may apply for credit for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Credit Transfer Procedure

Maximum allowed

18 credit points except where a student transfers from one JCU award to another, then credit may be granted for more than two-thirds of the new award, where there is subject equivalence between the awards

Currency

Credit will be granted only for subjects completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course

Expiry

Credit gained for any subject shall be cancelled 13 years after the date of the examination upon which the credit is based if, by then, the student has not completed this course.

Studies and/or professional experiences undertaken to fulfil the entry requirements to JCU awards may not be used for credit
