Admission Requirements

Course pre-requisites	Completion of an AQF level 7 bachelor degree in a relevant health discipline, from this or another university; or Other qualifications or practical experience recognised by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Tropical Health and Medicine and/or the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Tropical Environments and Societies as equivalent to the above; or Submission, as an exceptional case, of other evidence of professional and academic attainments, including employment for a minimum of five years in health related activities. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee selection. In assessing applications the following will be considered: prior academic performance and prior relevant work experience.
Minimum English language proficiency requirements	Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 2 – Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.
Additional selection requirements	Information published by JCU or otherwise made available to students when applying, may specify additional criteria to be considered in ranking applicants in order of merit if the number of applications exceeds a quota or other limit on the places made available for the course. Information provided by applicants during the application process and any other information obtained by JCU in the application process may be used by JCU to rank applicants in order of merit by reference to those additional criteria.
Post admission requirements	For external delivery option, computer and internet access is required. Must achieve a GPA of 5 or above in the first year of study to be eligible to undertake the Global Development 12 credit point research thesis.

Upon successful completion of the Master of Public Health – Master of Global Development, graduates will be able to:

Critically analyse, evaluate and generate solutions to complex public health and development problems for tropical, remote, and Indigenous contexts, by using high levels of initiative, autonomy and collaboration action.
Integrate and apply advanced body of theoretical and technical knowledge in public health and international development policy and practice, including recent developments in the field.
Communicate theoretical propositions, methodologies, conclusions and professional decisions utilising public health and development-related data to specialist and non-special audiences through advanced oral and written English language skills and a variety of media.
Devise appropriate strategies to detect, prevent and control communicable and non-communicable diseases ensuring safe and healthy environments for tropical, rural, remote and Indigenous communities
Plan and conduct ethical and reliable evidence-based studies and/or research and/or placement through application of methods, techniques and tools appropriate to public health and development practice respectively.
Critically reflect on one’s social and cultural positionality to identify biases and assumptions that inform understandings of poverty, development, inequality and wellbeing.
Critically review, reflect on and engage with the public health and development-related regulatory requirements, ethical principles, cultural and professional frameworks to work effectively, responsibly and safely in diverse contexts.
Apply advanced professional leadership, project and organisational management skills to design, implement and evaluate public health and development policies and projects.

Credit

Eligibility	Students may apply for exemption for previous tertiary study where appropriate in accordance with the Credit Transfer Procedure. Credit may be granted for AQF Level 8 qualifications in a cognate discipline.
Maximum allowed	6 credit points except where a student transfers from one JCU award to another, then credit may be granted for more than two-thirds of the new award, where there is subject equivalence between the awards
Currency	Credit will be granted only for subjects completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course
Expiry	Credit gained for any subject shall be cancelled 18 years after the date of the examination upon which the credit is based if, by then, the student has not completed this course.
