A scholarship can feel like a golden ticket. It’s more than financial help, it’s a chance to grow, connect, and build confidence that can shape your university journey.
JCU Scholarships are built for people from every background. You might be from a regional or remote town, have big goals you’re chasing, or you want to continue making a difference in your community. Whatever the story looks like, there’s a scholarship that can help make study possible.
With over fifty scholarships on offer, some worth up to $40,000, JCU supports students at every stage of study, whether you’re starting your first degree, returning to study, or advancing into research. Each scholarship is designed to make university more accessible and give students the support they need to chase their goals with confidence.
It all begins with a strong application. Grades matter, sure. But this is really your chance to show who you are and what makes you stand out. Many scholarships require a written statement or short essay, use it highlight what you have achieved and how the scholarship would help you grow and reach your goals.
Keep these points in mind when you apply:
*Stick to the brief: Follow the word limit and answer every question clearly.
*Make it personal: Show how your goals and experiences align with what they are looking for in terms of values.
*Share your impact: Consistency is what matters most. If you have volunteered, worked, or joined a social club, talk about the experience you gained from this and how it influenced you.
*Highlight your initiative: Focus on what opportunities you created. Did you organise an event, contribute to a project, or help improve something in your community? Write it down.
*Show the difference it would make: What would this opportunity mean for you? Easing financial pressure, give back to others, study away from home? Express it.
*Polish it up: Read it out loud, ask someone to review it, and double-check your spelling. Attention to detail will stand out.
Every scholarship has a purpose
Some will make it easier to relocate, some reward hard work, and others focus on supporting particular courses or fields of study. At their core, every scholarship exists to help more people access uni and follow their goals. Once you find a scholarship that feels right for you and your circumstances, apply. Don’t overthink it, you’ve got nothing to lose by putting yourself forward.
