Embracing a change

Growing up on a cattle farm and wanting to contribute to her family’s business led JCU Alumni Sarah Brabazon to study animal science. However, even after earning a Master’s in the area, Sarah realised that simply putting theory into farming practice wasn’t enough to fulfill her love of working up close and personal with animals. So, Sarah decided to be brave and make a switch by pursuing a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at JCU. Now starting her first vet surgeon job in a rural clinic, Sarah says that embracing change can lead to finding your true passion.

New lease on life

Eleven critically endangered sea turtles are making waves in the Great Barrier Reef after more than two years at James Cook University’s Turtle Health Research Facility. The facility, affectionately referred to as The Caraplace – named after the top of a turtle’s shell – released the hawksbill turtles early last month after conducting a number of world-first studies with the animals.
