Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Students of non English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The IELTS score required for admission to this course can be found in Schedule I of the JCU Admissions policy.

Applicants must nominate one of the Business majors as part of their application. A second major &/or minor/s can be chosen after admission to the course.

A maximum of 30 credit points may be taken at level 1

A minimum of 18 credit points must be taken at level 2

A minimum of 18 credit points must be taken at level 3

Accreditation requirements

To be eligible for accreditation with Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA Australia) and/or the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA) students must complete the Accounting major as well as 9 credit points consisting of the following subjects:

BX2112:03 Law of Business Organisations

BX3112:03 Taxation

Supplementary exam for final subject

A candidate who has failed the final subject towards the award and who gained 40% or more of the marks for that subject, may be granted a supplementary examination in that subject. However if that subject is required for accreditation, then the criteria specified by that accreditation will apply.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Candidates may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing for Previous Studies and Recognised Prior Learning policy associated procedures.

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 6 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 16 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.

Inclusion of majors on testamur

All majors studied, shall appear on the testamur. No minors shall appear on the testamur.

Exit with lesser award

Candidates who exit the course prior to completion, and have completed 24 credit points of study and appropriate subjects, may be eligible to receive the award of Diploma of Business.
