About this Event

To mark National Skills Week, Inspiration on Tap is bringing together two experts in workforce development to tackle the issue of critical skills shortages facing Northern Australia. JCU’s Dr Leigh-Ann Onnis will explore a major dilemma facing regional businesses that experience workforce shortages and high turnover; invest in the current workforce, or recruit the skills they need? Ms Lisa Mannering - employment lawyer and HR consultant - will provide practical insights into the strategies that regional businesses can use to attract, retain and engage workers.

Meet the experts: Dr Leigh-Ann Onnis and Ms Lisa Mannering

Dr Leigh-Ann Onnis is a senior lecturer in management from JCU’s College of Business, Law and Governance, and by drawing on her research into workforce sustainability, she will highlight the challenges facing regional businesses experiencing workforce shortage and high turnover.

Ms Lisa Mannering has extensive experience working with both employers and employees across the Cairns region as an employment lawyer and HR consultant at Langtree Legal. She will share practical insights on the strategies businesses can use to attract, retain and engage workers, and how to bring skills in and develop from within.
