Cairns student Paris Cantwell will begin university life next week with an extra spring in her step thanks to a scholarship from Ronald McDonald House.

A graduate of St Andrew’s Catholic College, Paris is the latest recipient of Ronald McDonald House North Queensland’s $5,000 Charlie Bell Scholarship.

Paris and her family have previously been helped by Ronald McDonald house when she experienced serious childhood illness.

“Despite numerous absences from school for medical treatment, Paris has always been active in her school community and has earned awards for academic excellence,” said Amy Cooper, Ronald McDonald House North Queensland CEO.

“Her steadfast focus on achieving goals, her honesty and her can-do attitude, despite all the hardship she has faced, make her a truly deserving recipient of the Charlie Bell Scholarship.”

Paris has a particular interest in human rights and has enrolled in Arts-Law at JCU Cairns.

"This scholarship will help me to fulfil one of my biggest dreams,” she said. “It will be very helpful for not only myself but for my family because I know how much my mum has sacrificed for me just so I could be well and healthy. It will also assist me on my path to making my dream of becoming a barrister come true.”
