Experts talk Asia at JCU today

Experts on China and how Australia can cash-in on the country’s economic expansion will meet at JCU today.

Professor Zhang-Yue Zhou is convening the annual Asian Market Forum, held at JCU’s Education Central building in Townsville on Friday, 13 July.

He said the focus on Australia’s largest trading partner, China is no accident.

“China’s imports of agrifoods and natural resources from Australia are expected to rise further as the country becomes richer and more urbanised. Tourists to Australia are also expected to increase. More visitors to Australia are expected from China this year than from New Zealand – over 1.5 million people.”

Experts on China and businesspeople from China will attend the event including Professor Bin Dai, President, China Tourism Academy; Bing Liue, GM, Asia Lead and Senior China Advisor, Austrade; and James Hudson, Director of Corporate Affairs and Marketing, Australia and New Zealand, Alibaba Group.

Topics will include how Australia can tap into China’s rising affluence, the Chinese view of investing in Australia, and how to avoid trade-financing traps in the digital era.

Dr Zhou said how China’s economy will evolve will have enormous consequences for Australia’s economy.

“We’re bringing together a group of high-calibre speakers who can talk about the opportunities and challenges ahead and what the prospects are for Australia/China trade ties.”

The one-day forum will conclude with afternoon tea and networking at 4pm.
