Bebegu Yumba Campus, Townsville reopens
The Bebegu Yumba campus in Townsville will reopen on Tuesday 4th February but there may be some disruptions to teaching and services.

For Students:
- Advice on individual subjects will be provided through course and subject coordinators – please monitor your emails regarding what teaching events will be available tomorrow either on campus or online.
- Please be flexible, as many staff and students may still be evacuated from their residences, may have flood impacted homes, have parenting responsibilities given continued school and childcare closures, or otherwise unable to travel to campus.
- Students scheduled to commence Clinical or other Placements may be impacted for some time given the flooding and road closures across the northern QLD region. Your safety is our primary concern.
- Please also monitor student bulletins for further advice.
For staff:
- Staff who are able to travel to campus are encouraged to do so, but we note that many are still impacted by the weather event as indicated for students above.
- Staff who are unable to return to campus, or work from home, should apply for natural disaster leave (up to 5 days) when they are able.
- Please engage with your supervisors about your personal circumstance – we understand flexibility may be required as we transition back to normal operations.
Safety on Campus
Please note the following:
- Be aware of water over the road - be mindful of debris and potholes and obey all speed limits and signage.
- Do not park under trees or in dirt car parks.
- Be careful of slippery surfaces and footpaths.
- Whilst the Estate staff have undertaken damage assessments and work on minor leaks and foliage debris around campus, if you observe any maintenance issue submit a Mex or call x14444.
- The JCU Walking Track and mountain bike trails remain closed.
- If you have any safety concerns, contact Security on x15555 or submit an incident report through the JCU Safe App.
It is likely that the Unicare Centre and Unicampus Kids child care centres will be open on Tuesday 4th February, but they will communicate with parents regarding opening.
Counselling supports and crisis hotlines can be found on the JCU Safe App. We acknowledge that many staff and students will have family and friends profoundly impacted by the flooding events in Ingham and the surrounding region.
Please, ensure you are considering your own safety in making any decision to return to campus monitoring the road conditions on the Townsville Disaster Dashboard, and continue to monitor the JCU Safe App, JCU website, email, Facebook and X (Twitter).
