JCU on display at 2025 Open Days

James Cook University is preparing to open the doors of its Bebegu Yumba (Douglas) campus to the public for its annual Open Day events.

This Friday, July 18, is JCU’s School’s Open Day, with hundreds of students from across the region attending, before our main Open Day event on Saturday, July 19, which is open to everyone in the community.

The University’s world-class educational programs and research will be on display, with a host of activities for the community to enjoy, which showcase the different study areas JCU has to offer.

Attendees can unearth secrets of the past in an archaeological dig, experience the fast-paced world of healthcare in our nursing simulation lab or try their hand at being a veterinarian by testing for cow pregnancies using our life-like simulation models.

Visitors will also have the chance to take guided tours of on-campus accommodation, as well as tours of state-of-the-art facilities including the award-winning Engineering and Innovation Place, and the Eddie Koiki Mabo Library.

Set in a fun and relaxed environment, Open Day will include presentations by academic experts, hands-on activities and is the perfect way to know what your future at JCU could look like.

JCU Vice Chancellor Professor Simon Biggs said Open Day is a chance for future students and their families to experience a taste of life at JCU.

“The University is delighted to give the Townsville community a unique look at regional Queensland’s premier tertiary education institution,” he said.

“It’s always a great thrill to throw our doors open and let members of the community get an in-person look at the wide range of study and research fields we offer.

“There’s no shortage of exciting activities on the day and it’s a great chance to showcase the exceptional opportunities we provide for our students.”

There will also be live music from Townsville favourites HeartSongs on the day and guests can indulge in some delicious food from Potato Smash, Crave Frozen Yoghurt and Rainbow Smash.

Saturday’s event will be followed by a Cairns Open Day at the Cairns Nguma-bada campus (Smithfield) on  Friday, July 25,  from 3pm-6pm
