Discover your future at JCU’s Townsville Open Day

James Cook University is inviting the community to explore campus life, discover world-class facilities and connect with students and staff at Townsville Open Day this Sunday, June 21.

Running from 10am to 2pm at JCU’s Bebegu Yumba campus in Douglas, visitors can get hands-on with a range of interactive activities while exploring study options and learning more about life at JCU.

Families and future students can get up close with wildlife displays featuring JCU’s resident baby saltwater crocodile, explore marine life tanks, take part in an archaeological dig and enjoy hands-on demonstrations across campus.

Visitors will also have the chance to tour on-campus accommodation options, alongside guided tours and information sessions from all JCU colleges.

JCU Vice Chancellor Professor Simon Biggs said the University is delighted to give the Townsville community a unique look at regional Queensland’s premier tertiary education institution.

“Open Day gives future students and their families the opportunity to experience life at JCU and learn how we can help shape future careers,” he said.

“Community members can explore our diverse range of study and research areas while taking part in a variety of exciting activities across the day.

“We are excited to welcome the local community onto campus because at JCU, our focus continues to be on providing exceptional opportunities for students while inspiring the leaders of tomorrow in their chosen fields.”

Those who attend Open Day on Sunday will have the opportunity to enter the draw to win $5000 off their JCU degree commencing in 2027 as part of Hit FM’s ‘Find the Blue Door’ competition.

Townsville Fire captain Courtney Woods and North Queensland Cowboys players will also be on hand to host interactive sporting challenges.

Alongside Sunday’s community Open Day, JCU will host a Schools Open Day on Tuesday next week, welcoming around 29 secondary schools from across the region.

Students travelling from outside Townsville will stay on campus overnight and experience university life before spending the next day exploring study areas, touring facilities and hearing from current students and academics.

JCU will also hold Open Days in Mount Isa on Thursday, July 16, Emerald on Tuesday, July 21 and at the Cairns Nguma-bada campus (Smithfield) on Friday, July 24.
